No matter what Punxsutawney Phil had to say about a prolonged winter, Spring is in the air! This season is going to be a cheerful one, full of fantasy, nostalgia and sweet confections.
Designers take us on a journey with the Spring 2012 collections from the seashore to the botanical gardens to the homes ancient tribes and beyond.
These are top trends for Spring 2012
ATLANTIS:
Designers dove deep in search of a muse and emerged with otherworldly looks worthy of Amphitrite herself. Aquatic inspirations translated to ethereal silhouettes, delicate gowns in sea foam and enough pearl trimmed accessories for an army of urban nymphs.
NEON BRIGHT:
After a high watt Fall/Winter season, several designers continued with the day-glow tangerines, solar powered yellows and chlorophyll greens. Both classic and contemporary looks dipped in these energetic hues promise an intrepid Spring.
PRETTY PALE:
Neons give way to a refreshing palette of delicate nudes and chalky pastels in ladylike lace and gossamer layers. White is the color of the season from day to evening with even the tuxedo and the little black dress were reborn pure as snow.
GREAT GATSBY:
Spring collections are full of cheer and fantasy with designs that harken back to the good ‘ol days of decades past. The 30s, 50s, 70s all make an appearance but the most promising theme was the roaring 20s.
SPORTY SPICE:
The competition reaches Olympic proportions both on and off the field with track pants, sweatshirts and athletic innuendoes worthy of a gold medal.
HIGH VOLUME:
Pleats and peplums are plentiful for Spring as designers celebrate curves and experiment with proportions. 50s inspired full skirts and longer hem lines rule the season.
GRAPHIC ARTISTRY:
Prints make a bold statement from floral to fusion. Color blocking gets mastered this and fearless combinations of bright colors, architectural lines, abstracts and even museum quality prints make an appearance.
ACCESSORIES:
Accoutrements are as diverse as they are creative. Tribal influences, botanical confections, futuristic matellics and prissy whites embellish the collections. Pile on the arm candy, clutch a strapless day bag and take a risk with statement earrings.
